Police Explorers

Riverside Police Explorers Program

Discover a hands-on way for youth to explore law enforcement careers. The Riverside Police Explorer program is our hands-on, career-exploration program. It is affiliated with Learning for Life (a Boy Scouts of America program). Participants gain real world policing experience through classroom training and practical skills like traffic stops, crime scene basics, leadership, first aid, ride-alongs, and community service at local events such as parades and fundraisers. The program builds personal growth, discipline, civic pride, and positive police-youth relationships, with many alumni pursuing policing careers.

Who are we?

The Riverside Police Explorers program is for students ages 15 to 20 yrs of age who want to learn and experience different aspects of law enforcement. We established this program in 2006 to promote positive policing in law enforcement for our youth. The Explorers are trained under the supervision and guidance of members of the Riverside Police Department.

What do we do?

The activities of the Explorers include, but are not limited to, training in police procedures, court testimony, report writing, ride alongs with officers, field trips and community service. Although Explorers do not have law enforcement authority, they often augment the Police Department by assisting with community related functions.

Who can join?

Anyone ages 15 to 20 who has an interest in a career in law enforcement (AND wants to MAKE a difference!) If you don’t live in Riverside, but your town or school does not have an Explorers program – you are eligible to join!
